Aquaculture Week and Mussel Appreciation Day (M.A.D)

Aquaculture week is an initiative of Marlborough District Council's Smart and Connected Harmony Group. It is a celebration of the vibrant local aquaculture industry in the lead up to the Havelock Mussel and Seafood Festival. Events include a 'Pop Up' display in Blenheim with oyster and mussel shucking and salmon pin boning demos and tastings, an Industry Open Day in Havelock and the day before the Festival is M.A.D. where local businesses, cafes, restaurants and schools celebrate the NZ greenshell mussel.

Spat NZ

Spat NZ is a primary growth partnership programme set up with the aim to develop and advance NZ’s Mussel/Aquaculture Industry. A main focus of Spat NZ has been the selective breeding of Greenshell mussels which will lessen industry's reliance on wild spat.
